Tumbarumba Tumbafest has been running since 1996 and triples the local population of 2000 in this stunning Snowy Valleys region each year.

Two days of tasting, activities and music will be on offer at various venues around Tumbarumba on February 24 and 25, 2024.

The likes of Daryl Braithwaite have graced Tumbafest, and lesser known artists with memorable names like the Toe Suckin' Cowgirls, Psycho Zydeco, and Finn McCool. The festival features a main stage that has previously welcomed headliners such as Jessica Mauboy, The Mighty Yak, The Wolfe Brothers and Hurricane Fall.

As for the perfect pairing for music? Wine. The Ray White Wine Courtyard showcases Tumbarumba’s distinctive cool climate wines from passionate local growers and winemakers. Pair a chilled glass of wine with local food from the Costa Food Alley for a tantalising taste that will have you dreaming of Tumbaruma long after you return home.

The music festival also boasts local produce from the Snowy Valley Region with market stalls and food stands aplenty. There’s something for the whole family at Tumbafest, with kids loving the bungee trampoline, indoor rock climbing display and entertainment by Balloonatic Bruce while you sample sparklings, rieslings, chardonnays and other cool-climate wines. Activities in The Kids Corner are free for children under 12 and amusement rides are also available for all ages at an additional cost.

Located halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, the scenic town of Tumbarumba is just a five hour drive from Sydney or Melbourne, or a little over an hour if you choose to fly. It’s a walker's paradise, with short walks and longer treks along the Hume and Hovell Walking Track, as well as good cycling routes. Fishing, canoeing and boating at Khancoban is made easy with walking access to the pondage and constant inflows of cold Snowy Hydro water to keep trout fishing going when other waters are too warm. Kayak, raft and boat hire is available at Khancoban Lakeside Caravan Resort. Other attractions include historic buildings and museums.

Enjoy the History Walk through town and discover its gold-mining and timber heritage. Take a picnic to Glenroy Heritage Reserve where you can browse through the Cottage Craft Shop and the Pioneer Women's Hut Museum. For accommodation in the bush, try a rustic farmstay, or if you would rather sit back and relax, head to McPhersons Plains Alpine Retreat, the Lazy Dog B&B, and Paddy's River Cottage. Enjoy refreshments and a meal at the Tooma Hotel and the Bridge Hotel at Jingellic on the Murray River.

Accommodation in Tumbarumba is relatively limited, so be sure to book your spot early. Pack your bags, grab your floppy hats and graze your way down to the banks of the Tumbarumba Creek for the annual Tumbafest.

Once you’ve booked your spot, there are a few things to remember:

  • As a strictly no BYO event, it is a good idea to visit the ATM beforehand.
  • The organisers ask that you please leave your fur babies at home.
  • Hats and sunscreen are always a good idea to enjoy the summer weather.
