Since 1991, Orange F.O.O.D Week has been considered one of the crème de la crème festivals that NSW has to offer – and for good reason.
As the longest running regional festival in Australia, the town is passionate about making each year better than the last. In fact, in 2018 it even became Australia’s first festival to be ISO20121 accredited, meaning it meets worldwide sustainability standards. Impressive!
Known as the ‘Food Basket of NSW’, Orange is famous for its beautifully diverse, high-quality produce and wine. Each year, the town comes alive for ten days in April and hosts six main events, and over 90 smaller attractions. To wrap your head around the massive schedule, head to F.O.O.D HQ at the Orange Visitor Information Center.
One of the must-see events is the Sampson Street Long Lunch. Internationally recognised chefs have made their mark on this event and every year uncovers a new culinary delight.
Set on a long table under the shade of the Plane Trees in autumn, it’s a gorgeous location to enjoy a chat with new friends while sharing a bottle or two of premium cold-climate wine.Once you’ve had your fill, book into a workshop with a local grower or producer for a deeper understanding of what Orange contributes to the foodie scene. Wine not your thing? Thankfully, there’s something for everyone. From coffee and fruit, to meat, cheese and vegetables, there’s plenty to taste and even more to learn. Before you head back to the big smoke (it’ll be hard!), make sure to stop by the Sunday producer market to grab some delicious goods to enjoy at home and a spot of brunch. Aside from being packed with all sorts of goodies, the market is a great place to meet the producers and artisans. Located in Cook Park, it’s a lovely place for a stroll too. Head to the website to secure your tickets ahead of time!
