If you’re looking to find a true-blue Aussie town with a laid-back spirit, beautiful landscapes and rustic historical sites, Rylstone is a great bet.

Located next to the Cudgegon River and the World Heritage-listed Wollemi National Park, Rylstone is one of the oldest settlements in the area with plenty to do. But if you want to make the most of your time there, you won’t want to miss the annual Rylestone Street Feast.Every November, the main drag, Louee Street, closes to traffic and transforms into a bustling festival full of food, drinks, wine, craft and original art. Guests are invited to spend the day strolling through the town, enjoying the iconic sandstone buildings and treating themselves to the local food and produce. But the afternoon is the event locals wait all year for; The Long Lunch. A large table is set up down the street and the community and guests alike gather for a slow, boozy lunch in the sunshine. For $145 per person, you can enjoy a four-course sit-down meal that caterers to your dietary requirements. Enjoy a yarn with those around you and uncover the hidden gems in the area from the locals. Accommodation is available in Rylstone, but another great option is to stay in Mudgee. It’s about an hour’s drive to the town, but shuttle buses will be operating throughout the day, so don’t be afraid to have a cheeky wine or two!
